Using oils applied with a palette knife, Emily explores paint as a stand in for its subject. Impasto becomes crashing waves, dripping flower petals and sculptural forms. The result is images that function as both painting and object.

Drawn to the strong forms of nature – from still lifes, to fields of sunflowers, Welsh mountains and the seascapes of Cornwall – she works directly from her subject. This immediacy embeds the energy of the encounter into the paint. The viewer is then drawn into that same moment, feeling the vitality transmitted through the surface.
